Capitalism Lab Full Version

Capitalism Lab is an academic game founded by University of Toronto professors Michael Heaney and Tamar Love. It was designed to teach students about economics, political science, and financial literacy. Players play the role of a newly appointed CEO of a company that they must build into the most profitable corporation within five years. This game looked at capitalism in general, not just one market like many video games do today. Players are presented with different markets for their company to sell products in, including but not limited to: food processing, basic mining operations, hospital care facilities, land transport services and so on. There are no direct competitors in this game, save for one employee that is hired with each company. It is up to the player to hire an adequate number of employees, keep them content by offering bonuses and benefits, and work hard to maintain their top spots in the market. The game allows the player to prioritize how they will spend their money wisely by researching which markets they should focus on first. A lack of workers will cause the company to fail early on which would ultimately result in loss of profit for players at a later stage. The game takes place entirely within a single country which is selected by the players prior to playing. There are four years of game play but the game is always set to realistically simulate how companies compete in the real world. There are no real-life companies in this game, only fictional ones. A university project was done by students who worked on "Capitalism Lab". The project is available now on the website for you to play now. The students were able to study the game along with interacting with players who had already played it and made comments about their experience playing Capitalism Lab. They also had access to Google Analytics data that showed how many people were playing each day which allowed them to see which parts of the game were most popular.
